5G Explained
5G is the next generation of the 3G and 4G mobile networks. This next generation is still in development and builds off the 4G network. At present it is only available in small pockets across limited metro and regional hubs. At this stage 5G is not available with Woolworths Mobile, 4G continues to provide great performance and will be around for years to come.
5G capable handsets are available to purchase for customers who would like to be 5G ready for the future.
Woolworths Mobile uses parts of Telstra’s 3G and 4G network that covers 98.8% of the Australian population.

5G offers faster speeds, lower latency (i.e. faster response times) and more capacity (more devices can connect to the same network at the same time) when compared to 4G. In real terms, this means that you are less likely to deal with disruptions when sharing videos in crowded areas or notice as much buffering on high-quality videos. Note: Woolworths Mobile does not offer a 5G network yet. 4G continues to provide great performance and meet the needs of our customers. We will continue to invest on the 4G network. 5G capable handsets are available to purchase for customers who would like to be 5G-ready.
Woolworths Mobile does not offer the 5G network and there are no specific timings yet as the rollout is only in its early stages. Rest assured we will keep you updated as rollout progresses.
You will need a 5G compatible handset or device, a 5G plan and be in a 5G coverage area.
Yes, you will require a device that is 5G capable and compatible with your mobile provider’s 5G technology. When outside of 5G areas, these devices will continue to operate on 3G or 4G (depending on specific device capability).
No, a 4G handset will not support communications on the 5G network. However, 4G will be around for years to come.
